Baby bump cake June 29, 2013

Baby bump belly cakes have quickly become one of the most popular styles of baby shower cakes. They can be used to reveal the baby’s gender as a fun surprise, and they also can be decorated to look just like the mother-to-be.

I have made this cake several times. The Wilton ball pan works for the breasts. The belly can be made from the Wilton soccer ball pan!

This particular one was made last weekend for Becca who is having her third baby!!!! She is going to be one busy mama. After two boys she is finally expecting a baby girl.

The party decor was purple, white and light pink, hence the cake was decorated in the same colours. Instead of the bow I usually do for the bump cakes, I made an anemone sugar flower and I was quite pleased with the outcome and from what I hear the cake was a hit.

Spider-Man cake

Last weekend I set out on the quest of making a super cool spiderman cake for a special little boy turning 5 years old. Last year, for his 4th birthday I made an awesome “transportation” cake.

I thought it would be neat to have Spider-Man “exploding” out if the cake… It is a 10″ round marble cake with vanilla buttercream icing and then wrapped in fondant.

I hear Logan was very happy with his cake. Happy birthday little guy!

Mini wedding cake June 3, 2013

This past weekend I had the pleasure of working on the tiniest wedding cake. A coworker asked me to make a 6″ square marble cake covered in vanilla buttercream and wrapped in fondant – the bride’s sister made cupcakes and cake pops to match.

For the design, I decided to go with a simple yet elegant sugar anemone as the topper and two other smaller ones on the sides. Ever look closely at an anemone? Anemones are delicately light, wildly varied (all those different petal shapes!), and very satisfying to make.

I think the result was a classic, timeless and elegant cake. The bride surely was pleased.
