Baby bump cake June 29, 2013

Baby bump belly cakes have quickly become one of the most popular styles of baby shower cakes. They can be used to reveal the baby’s gender as a fun surprise, and they also can be decorated to look just like the mother-to-be.

I have made this cake several times. The Wilton ball pan works for the breasts. The belly can be made from the Wilton soccer ball pan!

This particular one was made last weekend for Becca who is having her third baby!!!! She is going to be one busy mama. After two boys she is finally expecting a baby girl.

The party decor was purple, white and light pink, hence the cake was decorated in the same colours. Instead of the bow I usually do for the bump cakes, I made an anemone sugar flower and I was quite pleased with the outcome and from what I hear the cake was a hit.

Congrats Becca !!!

Spider-Man cake

Last weekend I set out on the quest of making a super cool spiderman cake for a special little boy turning 5 years old. Last year, for his 4th birthday I made an awesome “transportation” cake.

I thought it would be neat to have Spider-Man “exploding” out if the cake… It is a 10″ round marble cake with vanilla buttercream icing and then wrapped in fondant.

I hear Logan was very happy with his cake. Happy birthday little guy!

Mini wedding cake June 3, 2013

This past weekend I had the pleasure of working on the tiniest wedding cake. A coworker asked me to make a 6″ square marble cake covered in vanilla buttercream and wrapped in fondant – the bride’s sister made cupcakes and cake pops to match.

For the design, I decided to go with a simple yet elegant sugar anemone as the topper and two other smaller ones on the sides. Ever look closely at an anemone? Anemones are delicately light, wildly varied (all those different petal shapes!), and very satisfying to make.

I think the result was a classic, timeless and elegant cake. The bride surely was pleased.

Congratulations Renee and Eric !!!

Engagement cake April 30, 2013

My little brother is finally engaged … About a month ago they went to New York for a little long weekend getaway and he proposed. I am thrilled to have a sister in law … This past weekend her family threw an engagement party to celebrate Italian style. We had an amazing Italian feast, only thing missing was the cake. Nona Maria asked me to make the cake, so I jumped at the chance to make something special for them. I’ve been wanting to try the fondant ruffles on a cake, as well as the anemone sugar flower, so this was the perfect time to try it. Time consuming, I must say, but I was happy with the turn out…. What do you think ?

And last, but not least, here is the happy couple – so excited for you guys and what the future will bring!

Go bananas Curious George birthday cake April 25, 2013

Filed under: Cakes — Connie @ 3:18 am

This last weekend I was asked to make a 2nd birthday cake for my super fantastic friend Catherine’s son Callum.

She had mentioned that they were wanting to have a Curious George party and send along this fun birthday invite:

I was thrilled to have the opportunity to help once again (last year Callum had the Animal playing drums cake),plus… Hello Curious George!! I love this little monkey and so do my boys.

Cal’s mom sported a monkey mask like a champ and Cal’s dad was dressed as the Man in the yellow Hat. They even died the shirt and pants themselves and used a cowboy hat and some black felt to come up with the famous yellow hat.

They had a bouncy castle in the backyard, a ton of treats, awesome loot bags, even a movie full of milestones going back to Cal’s birth.

This was a swingin’ good time party and if you’re looking for a fantastic Curious George birthday Cake, this is the perfect cake to “Go Bananas” over!

Happy 2nd birthday Cal!

Rapunzel cake April 11, 2013

Let down your hair and check out this super cute Rapunzel cake I made last weekend.

I made this cake for my super awesome daycare provider’s daughter, Madison. She really loves the movie Tangled and is especially a big fan of Pascal, Rapunzel’s sidekick and adorable color-changing chameleon.

Ashley is super creative, innovative and fun, especially when it comes to all the daily crafts she makes with my boys. They are thrilled and so proud to show me their creations every day. So, no wonder, when it came to her own princess’s birthday time, she had Rapunzel come and visit in person and play sing along songs, play themed games, interactive story time, dress up time and cake ceremony time.

I was told there was a lot of ‘ooohing’ and ‘ahhhhing’ from the other 7 year old girls, and even Rapunzel herself was impressed.

Happy 7th Birthday Madison!
